AN HISTORIC village pub has been given the all-clear to replace “unsympathetic” windows with timber frames more befitting of a listed building.

The owners of the Red Lion in Powick, which is Grade II listed, want to replace 10 “unsympathetic uPVC windows with new traditional purpose-made flush-framed softwood timber traditional profile single glazed windows”.

Malvern Hills District Council said the existing uPVC windows are believed to have been installed by a previous owner without planning consent sometime in the past 15 years.

Planning officers said those windows had “negatively impacted the character of the building” and their replacement with timber frames would “restore the original material type”.
