Music legend Gilbert O’Sullivan is bringing six decades of hits to Malvern this September as part of his UK and Ireland tour.
The show takes place at Malvern Theatres’ Festival Theatre on Tuesday, September 1, as one of the UK’s most enduring and respected singer-songwriters marks 60 years in the music industry.
O'Sullivan is known for songs of endearing tunefulness, unabashed sentiment and existential musings.
Since his breakthrough in 1970 with Nothing Rhymed, he has achieved 16 Top 40 hits, including six No. 1 songs and timeless classics such as Alone Again (Naturally), Clair and Get Down.
He is also releasing his 21st studio album, On The Record, on November 6, introduced by the uplifting first single 'Growing Old Disgracefully'.
He said: "Daring to be different was the key for me.
"The writing has never stopped being the most important thing."
The album, produced by Andy Wright, features 13 new songs and was recorded in just five days at Eastcote Studios in London.
O’Sullivan said: "We have the same musicians. They know how I work.
"I play the song to them on the piano, we rehearse it a few times, and then we do a take.
"No rocket science involved.
"Over five days we did 13 tracks."
The album includes the lead single Growing Old Disgracefully and a duet with Andrea Corr titled Is That You?
O'Sullivan's career has included three Grammy nominations, three Ivor Novello Awards, and millions of records sold worldwide. He continues to draw wide praise from across the music industry.
CMAT described Alone Again (Naturally) as "the greatest Irish song ever made" and called Gilbert "one of the greatest songwriters in the world."
His songwriting has influenced generations of artists, including Paul Weller and Tim Burgess.
The tour celebrates not only six decades in music but also his ongoing creativity and commitment to his craft. He remains driven by his passion for music.
He said: "Why are we able to keep doing it? You do it because of your love of music. You love what you're hearing. You hear the chords of Burt Bacharach? You want that.
"I’m a rhythm pianist, I can't tinkle the ivories, but we have the ability to write music because we love what we hear."
