A MAN shoplifted from a Co-op store so many times that staff stopped putting coffee out on the shelves.

Police said the store on Old Street in Upton upon Severn had been repeatedly targeted by the same man.

PC Paul Slaymaker said this had led to staff being careful with how they stocked shelves.

He was eventually banned from the store.

"One man was stealing so much from the Co-op in Upton to the point that they weren't putting coffee on the shelves," PC Slaymaker said.

Along with PC Matthew Waite, he has been tasked with cracking down on shoplifting in the Malvern area.

He said staff are often advised not to intervene with shoplifters.

"A lot will make threats and the shops won't physically challenge anymore," PC Slaymaker said.

"If they put hands on, it often goes against store police.

"Staff don't get paid enough to get involved."
