MALVERN Priory Bowling Club is opening its doors over the Spring Bank Holiday as part of a nationwide campaign to give people the opportunity to have a go at bowls, for free.

Bowls’ Big Weekend, organised by Bowls England, will run from Friday, May 24 to Monday, May 27.

Many clubs across the country will be hosting events over the weekend offering a great opportunity for people to get together and try a new sport in the outdoors.

Malvern Priory Bowling Club at The Bowling Green, Orchard Road, Malvern, WR14 3DA, is running a session on Saturday, May 25, from 10am to 4pm for members of the local community to go along, try it out and “see how great bowls is!”

Malvern Priory Bowling Club will provide a great experience off the green too, with refreshments available – including light snacks.

Graham Anderson, the Club Secretary, said: “We’re participating in Bowls’ Big Weekend in order to give more people the opportunity to try our great sport. No experience is needed – just turn up and have a go whenever you like on the day!

“Whether you come on your own or as part of a larger group, you’re sure to receive a warm welcome. The only thing we ask is that you wear flat, soft soled shoes – trainers are perfect! Otherwise, it’s just casual attire and all bowls equipment will be provided.

“Members from the club will be on hand to help if you want a little friendly guidance too. Make sure you sign up in advance at bowlsbigweekend.com so we can be best prepared for your visit.

“Our bowling club is situated in the middle of Great Malvern and adjacent to Priory Park and the Malvern theatres. We have a spectacular view, from our Green, of Malvern Priory and the magnificent Malvern Hills and there is plenty of space for spectators to view the action.

“There is no dress code for roll ups (held on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 2 pm). The only requirement is for you to have flat shoes and we have a selection of bowls that you can use if you do not have your own.

“During the season we play Interclub and League matches as well as friendly matches with other clubs in Worcestershire and also hold many social club afternoons.
