A group of community transport customers have been treated to a different type of day out.

Service users of Redditch Borough Council's Dial A Ride Service, who are usually transported to medical appointments or to local shops, recently enjoyed a trip to Mappleborough Green Garden Centre.

Organised by the Dial A Ride staff, the outing aimed to gather a group together, encouraging them to socialise and enjoy a day out at a different location.

Of the 13 customers who attended the outing, they all called the day out as a success.

Irene, one of the customers, said: "I enjoyed it very much and got chatting to another customer.

"We walked around together and had a meal.

"I'm very grateful for the service, I always feel safe, and the drivers are all very kind.

"My son feels reassured that I'm safe travelling on my own".

Another customer, Marlene, expressed her as she said: "It was fantastic! I really enjoyed myself and am looking forward to the next trip with my friend Betty."

Dial A Ride, a door-to-door community transport service, helps residents who can't use public transport.

Alison Osborne, Community Transport Manager, said: "Although our service can be used by anyone who needs us, whether you're recovering from an injury, illness, or operation, or just need a bit of extra help to get out and about, we do get a lot of more elderly customers who can be quite isolated, even those that are regular travellers."

Ms Osborne also said: "It was so wonderful to see the impact a simple trip to the garden centre can have, especially as this is something many of us would take for granted."

The service operates from Monday to Friday, with the booking line open from 9am to 4.30pm. Further details on making a booking are available on their website.
