England Boxing have announced their team heading to the upcoming EUBC Junior European Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia, from June 21 to July 3, which includes a young female talent from Bradford.

Siobhan Haley, from Platinum Boxing Club in Queensbury, is one of the 17 talented boxers, supported by five reserves, who is set to undergo rigorous training, including six dedicated camps, in preparation for the prestigious event.

Haley, competing in the female U57kg category, is one of only two Yorkshire representatives in the squad.

The other is Luke Moore, of Henry’s in York, who will be boxing in the male U63kg category.

Headlining the roster out in Bosnia is the reigning Junior European Champion, Humza Malik from Repton Boxing Club, who is determined to defend his title.

Malik expressed his excitement, stating: “It’s a big achievement being selected for the Europeans and representing my country at a major competition again.

“All the hard work begins with good preparation to get me and my team members ready to bring back medals. I can’t wait to bring back another gold for my country.”

Joining Malik is teammate Rihanna Holden from the Phil Thomas School of Boxing, a three-time National Champion.

Holden expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing the significance of representing her country. “There’s no greater honour than being chosen to represent your country in your sport.

“I’ve been chosen twice before but you can never take anything for granted, so I intend to show England Boxing that they have, once again, have made the right decision to put their trust in me.

“I’m a three-time National Champion but boxing at international level is a different league.

“The preparation training is always hard, and this year will be no different, especially as I’m now boxing in the junior category, but it’s what I love, and I learn so much every year.

“I can’t wait to meet up with this year’s team, especially as some members are from the teams I was in in 2022 and 2023.”
