Police have confirmed that a body has been found in connection with missing Royal Navy sailor, Joshua Gayton.

Mr Gayton aged 21, from Evesham, was last seen on CCTV walking alone, away from Helensburgh town centre in Scotland, towards the footpath on East Clyde Street, near to Lomond Street, at 12.46am on Tuesday, April 16.

He was reported missing after not attending work at nearby Faslane Naval Base, resulting in concerns being raised.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 6.20pm on Sunday, April 21, police received a report that the body of a man had been found in water off Helensburgh.

"Formal identification has still to take place, however, the family of Joshua Gayton, last seen in Helensburgh on Tuesday, April 16, has been notified.

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Since Mr Gayton's disappearance, a GoFundMe has been set up to support the family.

In an update on Sunday evening, the organiser of the fundraiser said: "It is with great sadness that a body has been found this evening.

"My thoughts are with Katie and her family.

"The money that we raised will help Katie and the family bring Josh home and will help them give him the send off he deserves."

Over £4,000 has been raised so far.
