A PROGRAMME of music to celebrate the heart of Spring in all its varying moods will take place in Malvern.

Orchestra Pro Anima will perform at Christ Church.

This is the latest in the popular series of concerts at the church given by Orchestra Pro Anima directed from the violin by Michael Bochmann MBE.

Michael Bochmann is well known to Malvern and Worcester audiences having formerly been leader of the English String and Symphony Orchestras whose base was in Malvern for many years.

The concert begins with an early Divertimento by Mozart which oozes wellbeing and continues with a soulful slow movement from Casadesus’ Viola Concerto in C minor. This is followed by the wonderful Violin Concerto in E major by Bach with its mix of joy, ebullience and longing.

The second half opens with Mendelssohn’s most lyrical String Symphony No 10. Then, after a short pastoral Interlude by Elgar, comes a virtuosic piece for cello and strings by the Hungarian composer Popper and the concert ends with Warlock’s much-loved Capriol Suite.

The concert takes place on Sunday, April 28 at 3pm at Christ Church, Avenue Road, Malvern by Orchestra Pro Anima.

Tickets are £19 and £15 (students’ half-price and free entry for children aged 10 and under).

Tickets are available from Malvern Tourist Information Centre on 01684 892289; info@visitthemalverns.org and from The Courtyard, Hereford on 01432 340555 and online at www.courtyard.org.uk

Espressivo Concerts was started by Kath Brain and her husband, John, just over 20 years ago and, since then, they have promoted about 200 classical concerts, mainly in The Three Counties. These have featured many international and some lesser-known musicians playing a variety of instruments and in many different formats from string orchestra, wind ensembles, string quartets, piano soloists, vocalists, to name a few.

Two further concerts in Malvern this year are a piano recital with the internationally acclaimed pianist Mark Bebbington on July 19 at Elmslie House in Avenue Road playing popular works by Chopin and then, on December 8, there will be a return visit from Orchestra Pro Anima to Christ Church.
