MALVERN Bagnères Twinning Association (MBTA) wants to recruit new members.

The association was set up in 2015 to establish an agreement with Bagnères-de-Bigorre, a charming spa town in the glorious setting of the Pyrenean foothills.

MBTA chairman Gina Butler said: “Our association with Bagnères over the past nine years has been a joy for those participating in exchanges and visits. Amazingly more than 200 people from the two towns have now been involved in our activities. These include school groups, young rugby players and their families and numerous other participants for whom the twinning partnership has opened doors to new friendships and great memories.

“We all want this to continue and to develop. A choir exchange is in the pipeline and a return visit to Bagnères is planned for October 2024, following the highly successful visit of 15 Bagnèrais to Malvern last September.”

The town typifies small French towns with a compact historical centre, a vibrant market scene and, aside from the thriving spa culture, is firmly rooted in a traditional farming way of life. Speciality pork cuisine and robust red wines are staple elements of the local gastronomical scene.

Gina said: “We welcome more Malvern residents to share in this development and to enjoy the great partnerships we have already established with our French counterparts. The MBTA is now looking to recruit new members. There will be an information evening on Thursday, 18 April, from 5.30pm to 7pm at Poolbrook Village Hall.

“We very much look forward to meeting you there and introducing you to Bagnères.”
