A canal boat is currently stuck in Worcester.

It is believed that the boat first became stuck on Saturday at the Gregory Mills top lock, before succumbing to the water on Sunday afternoon.

Canal and River Trust engineers were there in high vis jackets on Monday before returning today to help dislodge the canal boat.

According to the engineers the boat was not sitting level in the water when it passed through the lock.

This resulted in the front baseplate getting stuck on the side wall of the lock as it was travelling from the top lock to the bottom lock.

The boat then started to cant over before taking on water.

Since then, the boat and the lock have been drained.

They hope to then refill the lock, making sure that the canal boat sits level on the water, dislodging it from the walls.

The hope is that the boat will be free by the end of the day.

Andy Evans, who had rented a boat for the weekend and is now stuck waiting, said: "We arrived here on Sunday morning and there was a queue of boats.

"We were stopped by the boat in front who said that we could not pass as someone was stuck in the lock.

"There are three of us waiting on this side of the lock at the moment but I think people now know to avoid the area.

"We were supposed to be back in Dunhampstead Whalf this morning to drop the boat back off, but we are just stuck here waiting to see what happens, various people have come and gone in high vis.

"The owners are going to come and pick us up and take us back to our car whilst we leave the boat here.
