A BANK in Worcestershire has said it is to remain closed for the foreseeable future after a burglary at the branch.

Santander's Malvern branch on the Worcester Road was broken into at 1am yesterday morning (Monday).

The incident involved four suspects who forced entry into the bank with cash safes having been removed and taken.

The four suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a blue Alfa Romeo.

Police have put out an appeal for any witnesses of the incident to come forward with any information they may have.

Santander said it was now working to reopen the Malvern branch as soon as possible but stressed there was currently no precise time or date for a re-opening.

It has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.

A Santander spokesperson said: “Following an incident overnight, our Malvern branch is currently closed and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers.

“Customers can complete everyday banking activities including making cash deposits, at the Post Office branch that is just a few minutes’ walk away from our Malvern branch, while the nearest Santander branch for those who need it is in Worcester.”

Santander said its customers can continue to bank online and over the phone, with the nearest alternative Malvern's branch customers can use is the Worcester branch on Broad Street.

The Malvern Post Office is also a few minutes walking distance away from Santander.

At the local Post Office, customers can make cash deposits, withdraw funds, check their balance, and deposit cheques,
