VOLUNTEERS at a Malvern charity branch are hoping its next nearly new sale will be another success.

Malvern Hills NCT's (National Childbirth Trust) last event saw 1,800 second-hand items bought and sold with people queuing out of the door at opening time.

The next sale is on Saturday, March 9 at Malvern Active, Malvern College Sports Complex, Thirlstane Road, from 2.30pm until 4pm.

The branch's Fiona Brittain said: "It’s a real community event, supporting local families to buy and sell good quality clothes at an affordable price."

Twenty or so volunteers are involved on the day and some sellers donate unsold items to a local Ukrainian charity.

Fiona said: "It’s organised and run entirely by volunteers and goes from an empty hall to a fully-stocked room with rails of nearly new toys, clothes and more in just a few hours.

"At the last sale in September 2023, we sold just over 1,800 items in one-and-a-half hours. It is not a stall sale, like some other children sales.

"More a pop-up shop which makes it much easier to buy/sell."

People are able to sell by registering, pricing up their goods beforehand and dropping off to the venue the night before.

Volunteers then display all the goods by size/category, anything unsold is collected after the sale and money, less a commission, is sent to people a week or so after.

There will also be a few local businesses attending which are featured in an electronic goody bag.

The aim is to support local families and the environment but any proceeds go to running the volunteer-led branch which holds groups like Baby Cafe (infant feeding), Mondays up the Malverns (walking) and Welly Tots (walking group for toddlers).

Buyer and seller tickets, as well as businesses featuring, can be found at www.nct.org.uk/event/46171540.
