HOW sad this week to hear of the death of radio presenter Steve Wright.

When I joined the BBC, I never thought I would be presenting a radio show five and, for a while, six days a week but listening to Steve Wright gave me so many ideas and thoughts on how to make entertaining radio.

He was a great exponent of ‘zoo’ radio in that he got lots of voices on air.

He made personalities out of the newsreader, the traffic reporter, the weather forecaster, all sorts of people.

I have to say when driving home after an early show I didn’t listen to my own radio station, BBC Hereford and Worcester, but Steve Wright in The Afternoon. A true legend of radio.

What did you do for Valentine’s Day this week? Well, the good lady wife and I decided it was a bit pointless sending each other cards.

Instead, we ventured into the city of Worcester and had a romantic lunch.

Coronation chicken sandwiches at Elgars in Reindeer Court, superb.

I was at New Road this week for the monthly Cricket Society meeting where Charlie Morris was a very informative and entertaining guest.

I do have to say I have some concerns over the flood levels, there have been five floods so far this winter.

It is said it takes about six weeks from the floods going to be able to play on the ground and, although the first game is not until the middle of April, there must be some concern about starting the season on the ground.

I well remember 2007 when it flooded in the middle of the summer and no games were played on the ground from mid-July.

I am still puzzled as to why the match between Worcestershire and Lancashire was played at Taunton.

I can also exclusively reveal that I will not be applying for the post of chairman of Worcestershire CCC despite many asking if I was. A highly unlikely scenario to be honest.
