A CHARITY Malvern book shop has moved to a new venue in the town centre and opened its doors to welcome customers.

Books for Amnesty has closed its doors after 25 years in Edith Walk to relocate to Church Walk, not far away.

The book store, which has moved into the former Malvern Party and Balloons base, raises funds for Amnesty International.

Jan Dyer, who has volunteered at the shop since 1999, said: “Due to a change of landlord after 25 brilliant years we had to seek another location. The new premises have undergone a complete refurbishment and are in a more central location and have already attracted a huge amount of interest from passers-by. We expect to be even busier than in Edith Walk.

“The bookshop has always relied on donations to fill our shelves and thanks to the Malvern community’s generosity the attractive new shelves are well-stocked with the usual eclectic range of quality, value-for-money books.

“The team was very apprehensive about moving premises after so many years, but we’re all now tremendously excited about the new, more modern look and feel to the shop.

"Its unique character will be maintained due to the friendly and helpful volunteers and the diversity of our second-hand stock. We look forward to welcoming back our regular customers and meeting many new customers who may visit us looking for a gift or just a good read.

“We have a 27-strong team and we’re one of the only Amnesty bookshops without a paid manager.”

More books in a good condition and volunteers are needed with people welcome to drop by the shop from 10am until 4pm on Tuesdays to Fridays.

The Malvern bookshop has always been managed by a dedicated and knowledgeable team of volunteers.

Volunteering in the bookshop is a great way to support Amnesty and its work and there are plenty of different tasks and roles available.

If you’d like to be involved, please call in at the bookshop when it’s open - 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday or email malvernbookshop@amnesty.org.uk.
