A version of Mendelssohn's Elijah is to be performed by Malvern Festival Chorus in February.

The performance will be at 7pm on Saturday, February 10 at Malvern College's Great Hall.

The work is historically significant, having been a corner-stone of Birmingham Festival since its first introduction in 1846 where it remained a regular fixture until 1930.

Baritone Quentin Hayes will portray Elijah, with additional renowned soloists including soprano Louise Wayman, and mezzo-soprano Beth Moxon also featuring.

Ms Wayman last performed with the choir in Bach's Magnificat in D major in 2018, while Mr Hayes' link with Malvern tracks back to his schooldays as a pupil at Malvern College.

Internationally acclaimed tenor and the choir's president, James Oxley, will be a part of the concert.

The choir will also collaborate with members of London-based 1885 Singers.

Musical director of Malvern Festival Chorus, Jonathan Brown, said: "The choir is delighted to be performing this demanding and highly dramatic work and to be welcoming our guest singers and soloists, particularly our President, James Oxley.

"It promises to be an evening in the best tradition of the classical choral repertoire."
