THE first Maggs Sports Festival is coming to Malvern in the summer after a successful previous tournament.

A day of netball, including mixed competition, and rounders along with other sports will be held at MSJ Sports and Fitness Centre, Barnards Green Road.

It will be on Sunday, June 23 from 10am until 4pm and run by the Worcester-based charity Maggs which raises money to support the homeless and vulnerable across Worcestershire.

There will also be cakes, a raffle, face painting and more.

It will cost £50 per team for the sports competitions.

Places can be booked by emailing marketing@maggsdaycentre.co.uk and spaces will be limited.

The Maggs team hosted its first sporting tournament fundraiser last October at the same venue in Malvern and raised £813.23.

More than 100 people within 15 netball teams took part with the day supported by members of the community and local businesses.

Maggs was founded in 1984 after a homeless man died following years of sleeping rough on the streets.

Five members of the local church came together to provide sanctuary for the homeless to try to prevent further deaths.

They were provided with a small church in Deansway, Worcester, which nearly 40 years later is still the Maggs Day Centre.
