A 37-YEAR-old disqualified drug driver who had a knuckle duster on him has been ordered to do unpaid work. 

Shahram Karimpoor, of Burnley Road, Colne, Lancashire, entered his guilty pleas at Worcester Magistrates Court last month, returning to the court on January 4 for sentence.

Karimpoor admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance, drug driving and driving while disqualified.

Karimpoor drove a Seat on the M5 on July 29 last year.

He was stopped on the M5 Strensham Services between Junction 8 And Junction 7.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting at an earlier hearing, said police checks revealed there was no insurance for the car and Karimpoor was banned from the road.

After taking a roadside drug test Karimpoor was taken to the police station where he gave a sample which showed he had 3.4ug/l of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a cannabis breakdown, in his system.

That is above the legal limit of 2ug/l.

And after a search police discovered the knuckle duster.

Karimpoor was handed a two-year community order which includes the requirement to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation days within the next year.

The defendant was disqualified from driving for 40 months

Karimpoor was also ordered to pay costs of £185. 

A forfeiture and destruction order was made on the knuckleduster.
