Malvern Splash has been named Leisure Centre of the Year, ahead of 120 other leisure centres around the country.

The centre in Great Malvern has been recognised for the accolade against other Freedom Leisure-operated centres for its high standards, improvements to operations, energy efficiency, and more.

Freedom Leisure had received excellent feedback from customers and growth in membership numbers and sign-ups to the Swim Lesson Scheme.

The centre was also recognised for its nine-per-cent reduction in gas and electric outputs compared to the previous year, as well as 100-per-cent on a service quality audit.

Malvern Splash is also celebrating one year since its £200,000 investment into new fitness equipment and a function training area.

The project included IC6 spin bikes, an improved and extended functional training area, more leg machines, air bikes, power mills and a lifting platform.

Since the development, classes such as Freedom Lift, Freedom Core, Freedom Metcon, Beginner Gym Club and Ladies That Lift have been added to the timetable.

To celebrate the one year milestone, the centre will be running activities and offers from November 17-20.

There will be a half price and no joining fee on offer for December, as well as an InBody Machine (body composition stats), gym challenges, and additional classes.

Nick Charlton, centre manager at Malvern Splash, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to be acknowledged as Leisure Centre of the Year from the 120 facilities that Freedom Leisure operate on behalf of our local authority partners.

“Credit must go to the wonderful team we have at Malvern Splash and the customers who visit us on a weekly basis who have all contributed to this achievement.

“To be highlighted as excellent across a range of areas including customer satisfaction, participation and utility reduction is fantastic. We would like to thank our colleagues at Malvern Hills District Council for their support and investment over the recent years”.

Cllr Tom Wells, portfolio holder for community services at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are so lucky to have such a high-quality facility in our district for residents to enjoy.

“At the council we are committed to encouraging increased participation in physical activity, improving health and wellbeing and enhancing the quality of life of our residents”.

Malvern Hills District Council has a contract with Freedom Leisure to operate Malvern Splash, as well as Sport Dyson Perrins and Sport Martley leisure centres.
