RESIDENTS of a Malvern cul-de-sac have been putting up with flytipping and anti-social behaviour for three years, residents say.

But police are unaware of any issues in the area.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said rubbish is often left in woodland off Poplar gardens in Upper Howsell and a group of teenagers had been “intimidating” dog walkers and local children.

She said a group of youths who she believes are about 15 years old are “trashing the protected woodlands near our home, intimidating dog walkers, local children, smoking weed, stealing, and leaving excessive amounts of rubbish behind them”.

“The residents are trying to come up with a solution, and we are informing the land owner,” said a neighbour.

“This has been happening for three years now. In 2021, they stole a wheelchair, tried to set a sofa alight in the woods and the police got involved and the landowner cleared the rubbish.

“Last year we took down at least two dens and I removed lots of rubbish.

“There was also a sign on one of the trees that stated it was protected. The sign was ripped off and attempts made to set it on fire. I removed their rubbish and seats from that tree several times.”

One resident made a plea on Facebook this week for the parents of the teenagers not to allow them to hang around in the area.

Sergeant Geraint Perkins from West Mercia Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team in Malvern said: “We are not aware of on-going anti-social behaviour in Poplar Gardens in Malvern.

“Anti-social behaviour is something we take very seriously and we will take steps wherever possible to ensure people can live their lives peacefully and lawfully.

“If you are facing an issue where you live, please contact police by calling 101 or by reporting crime online at https://www.westmercia.police.uk/”
