A WEEKLY arts market launched in the summer will be covered as the weather turns colder.

En Plein Air, which sees artists and other creatives displaying and selling their work at Belle Vue Island, has proved popular in Malvern.

And as the markets will continue into the autumn, organisers felt they needed some cover for stallholders and shoppers alike.

Chris Lee, who runs the Amaze charity shop in Belle Vue Terrace, launched the market with partner Polly Reehal.

He said: “To make things a little more comfortable in the market for traders and customers alike, Rebecca Probert, the town centre support officer at Malvern Hills District Council, has arranged for the whole market to be covered from this Sunday (September 24) onwards.

“We have a number of large gazebos being delivered - so lots of fantastic gift ideas in the dry, whatever the weather.

“The weather was kind to us last week, despite the forecast of storms.”

Chris and Polly are also trying to arrange a series of Christmas markets at Belle Vue Island, around the lighting of the Great Malvern Christmas tree.

The idea will be to decorate the gazebos with lights and to find a space for Father Christmas and his grotto.

At last week’s market, the best stall prize was awarded to artist Ruta Rendy.

The prize was a meal for two at the Bluebell Inn.

En Plein Air, which means ‘in open air’, was launched in July with the aim of boosting footfall in Great Malvern on Sundays.

Chris said at the time: “We will create an amazing, colourful spectacle in the middle of Malvern that will attract people from far and wide.”
