A LEADING local cricket club is hosting a fun day for all the family to raise funds for a Malvern-based charity.

The event is being held at Colwall Cricket Club’s ground at Stowe Lane on Sunday, August 13, starting at 10am.

Money raised from the event will go to ARCOS – the Association for Rehabilitation of Communication and Oral Skills.

One of the main events is a six-a-side competition, featuring eight teams from the area, starting at 10.30pm.

Entry to the fun day, which has been organised by the club’s social team, the Colwall League of Gentlemen, is free.

Bacon rolls will be on sale until 1pm, and burgers and hot dogs from 3pm to 7pm. The club bar will be open throughout the event.

Stalls will be open from noon until 3pm, and they include a bottle stall, cake stall, bouncy castle, tower of tins, ladder game, flower pots, stick lotto, lucky dip and more.

ARCOS, based at Hatherton Lodge, Great Malvern, exists to improve life for children and adults who have various conditions that impair their communication and/or their ability to eat, drink and swallow.

Jane Kendrick of the club said: “We haven’t run a six-a-a side tournament for many years, but we’re hoping it will become an annual event from now on.

“ARCOS do a great job and we’re only too happy to support them. Our ground is said to be one of the most picturesque in the country, so we hope to have plenty of visitors on the day.”

ARCOS clinical director Kay Coombes said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Colwall Cricket Club have chosen to support us with this year’s fun day.

“It will be a great day out for all the family, and I would urge everyone to come along to Colwall’s lovely ground and enjoy themselves.”
