The organisers of a Parisian-style arts market coming to Malvern say they are getting “incredible support” from the town.

A weekly festival called En Plein Air will see the work of artists and performers from Malvern showcase on Belle Vue Island.

Chris Lee, who runs the Amaze charity shop in Bellevue Terrace, came up with the idea.

“The businesses of Malvern have been very supportive and we are extremely grateful,” he said.

“Waitrose has given considerable support and display space for our signs - particularly thanks to James, the manager, and Rosa Kauppinen, community lead.

“The Malvern Gin Company has given a substantial donation to help launch the project and Elaine Meredith, director of Malvern Gin has offered continuing support for the duration of the events.

“Jason Evans, general manager of the Mount Pleasant Hotel, has shown the support from his hotel with a generous donation to cover the signage to promote En Plein Air.

“The Bluebell Inn are supporting us and Marstons, their brewery, are hosting a display area with lots of great giveaways.

“Last but certainly not least, this event would not be possible without the incredible support of Rebecca Probert from Malvern Hills District Council.

“She arranged the grant and has been a constant source of help and guidance in obtaining licences etc that have enabled the show to go on.”

A number of artists and creatives have already booked space at the markets, which will take place each Sunday from August 6.

These include artists Graham Davies and Jim Hanlon, print maker and storyteller Graham Langley and antiques restorer Richard Thorogood.

Malvern St James School will be demonstrating their talents under the guidance of head of creative Alice Marlow.

“We really would like this to be a community event, celebrating all that’s great about Malvern,” said Chris.

“We need some choirs, am dram groups, magicians, jugglers, and dancers. We have a large space around the Elgar statue and it's free and without charge for them to use.”

Artists and others looking to sell their work can book a pitch for £10 - a price set because the council grant enabling the market to take place specifies it must be run as a not-for-profit event.
