THERE is excitement among landlords at a village pub that has been shortlisted to be named one of the best in Britain.

The team of The Rose & Crown in Severn Stoke have shared their excitement after the watering hole was shortlisted for the Marstons Pub of the Year category.

Andrew Goodall and his team are now up against six other UK pubs for the title.

The Great British Pub Awards awards are split into a variety of categories, including Best City/Urban Pub, Best Pub for Dogs and Best Pub to Watch Sport.

"We have flooded three times since opening in October 2020, which is three refurbishments and each time we have come back stronger and better," Mr Goodall said.

"This is why I think we were nominated for the award, and the staff has worked so well."

Mr Goodall decided to take on the pub during the pandemic and jokingly added that it was the best time to take over a business.

"I have got to commemorate the staff because they have got us to where we are.

"Every year we have been up for an award which shows we must be doing something right."

The awards will take place at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Tuesday, September 19.

In 2022, the pub was nominated for Pub of the Year and the Resilience and Innovation Award in the Worcestershire Tourism Awards.

Mr Goodall said sustainability and community are at the heart of everything they do at The Rose & Crown.

The pub pays for the Severn Stoke Christmas tree every year and is at the heart of the light switch-on event in the village.

The Rose & Crown also aim to recycle as much as possible, from bottle tops to tubs to the oil they cook by turning it into bio diesel.

The pub has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor and a five star hygiene rating.

A second Worcestershire pub is also up for the award.

Cock & Magpie in Severn Side, Bewdley, is also nominated for the same award.

It has a 4 out of five rating on TripAdvisor with one reviewer saying: "Service was fantastic and made to feel very welcome. Food was great, served promptly. Lovely afternoon family lunchtime”
