A NEW greengrocer’s is set to open in Malvern.

Lonsdale’s Fresh Produce is opening in Link Top on Saturday (July 29) and will even be offering a 10 per cent discount on the day.

The company, which is run by Jim Lonsdale, has been offering fresh fruit and veg deliveries around Malvern for the past few months.

It’s also had stalls at local markets including the Three Pears Crafters Events market, the Ledbury Charter Market and Malvern Vegan Market.

But Jim always had his eye on opening a shop - and is delighted to be doing so in his hometown.

“I’ve been around fruit and veg my whole working life,” he said, “starting at Morrisons, then Wye Fruit in Ledbury packing apples, pears and soft fruits.

“I’ve also worked on farms but opening a shop and going out on my own is very new for me.

“I always wanted to do something for myself and this is what I know.

“We started talking about this towards the end of 2022 and to tell the truth, I probably wasn’t going to actually go through with it, but my partner said ‘go for it’ so I did.”

Jim is making full use of his contacts within the industry, working with farms and suppliers from across Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

“The idea is to supply the local community with good quality produce, and to be part of the community.

“We looked all around for a premises, including in Worcester and Upton, but I always wanted to be in Malvern and it’s great not having that long commute, so I can spend more time with the family as well.”

Jim has been working hard to get the shop ready ahead of Saturday’s official opening.

“The shop was pretty much a blank canvas - white walls and a black floor,” he said.

“Me and my dad have built rustic racking and we’ve made it look like a traditional greengrocer’s, without the green astroturf.”
