Beer and vodka has been seized from a group of youths in Great Malvern.

PCSO Kevin Tudge, of the Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Team, seized alcohol from a group of youths in Grange Road on Saturday afternoon (July 1).

It is hoped his intervention would have helped to nip any anti-social behaviour in the bud.

The incident has also prompted West Mercia Police to remind shops of their duty not to serve under-age customers.

“Whilst the majority of shops are responsible, we would like to remind the minority of shops who sell alcohol of the challenge 25 Policy,” a spokesperson said.

“Challenge 25 is a retailing strategy that encourages anyone who is over 18 but looks under 25 to carry acceptable ID if they wish to buy alcohol.

“Introduced by the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group as Challenge 21 in 2006, Challenge 25 rolled out in the off trade in 2009.

“What are the penalties for selling sell to underage purchasers?

“The Licensing Act 2003 prohibits underage alcohol sales etc. Sellers may be issued an £80 fixed penalty notice or be prosecuted.

“On conviction the maximum fine is £5,000.”
