Weavers of Malvern doesn’t look like a traditional pub - but it’s proving a hit with locals, tourists and theatre stars alike.

The microbar in Church Street opened in October 2021 after owner Dean Cartwright spotted a gap in the market.

“Malvern didn’t really have a real ale house that also offers such a wide range of craft beers,” said manager Mark James.

“We offer seven real ales, five craft beers, three lagers, two ciders, a stout and an extensive range of wines and spirits.”

There’s also a focus on stocking local beers - Weavers’ house ale is made by Kidderminster-based Fownes Brewery.

There’s a relaxed atmosphere in Weavers, from the tables and sofas at the front to the garden Mark describes as a “south-facing sun trap” at the back.

The garden is a peaceful area with views of the hills, parasols for when it’s sunny and blankets for when the temperature drops.

“Customers are welcome to bring their own hot food,” said Mark, “so we get a lot of people ordering a Chinese, Indian or pizza to have with their beer.

“And we’re really dog friendly.”

The proof of that claim can be found on the Weavers Woof Wall - a display of Polaroids featuring some of the bar’s four-legged customers.

Weavers hosts a fortnightly charity quiz as well as a weekly board game evening, which again benefits from the pub’s relaxed ‘bring your own’ policy.

This friendly approach to running a bar appears to be working.

According to Mark: “We have our regular crowd, we get tourists and we also get a lot of theatre-goers.

“We’ve also had a few celebrities pop in for a drink when they’re at the theatre - Mathew Horne has been in, Keith Allen and a few others.

“We cater for all backgrounds and ages - I think if you provide good drinks and good service then people will come back.

“I just want to thank Dean for giving me the opportunity to run a brand new pub. It’s been really fruitful and I hope that continues.”
