A 78-year-old Malvern woman who still works long hours as a carer says she has no plans to retire.

Josephine Hobbs, who worked 57 hours last week, has been nominated for the Care Hero Award at the Worcestershire Health & Social Care Awards 2023.

Her son, Malvin Hobbs, submitted the nomination.

“My mum is 78 years old and works over 75 hours a week for a domiciliary care company,” he said.

“She starts work every morning at 6.30am and finishes most nights at 8.45pm. She supplies amazing care to her service users and makes sure they always have what they need.

“My mum is always around for her service users at their times of need. Unfortunately in her job she has to deal with service users when they pass and she’s always there for the family at their time of need.

“She’s always working and at her age it’s just unbelievable.”

Josephine said she was shocked to be nominated, adding: “I love my job.

“Retirement is a swear word in my house - I don’t like it, I just keep going. I love my clients and they love me.”

Josephine has worked for Malvern-based Care 4 Me for the past few years, and before that had worked in care at Worcestershire Royal Hospital since 1989.

“I’ve got a family but my job is my life,” she said. “Care 4 Me are great to work for and my boss is amazing.”

When Josephine gets a rare moment to herself outside of work, she enjoys cooking, dressmaking and spending time with her family.
