A “cheeky and playful” but nervous dog is looking for a new home after spending eight months at a rescue shelter.
Trail hound Dale is a shy dog having had limited socialisation as a puppy.
But that has not stopped him becoming a firm favourite among staff at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter in Malvern.
“When Dale first came to us, he had limited positive experiences with people,” said Vanessa Kelly, kennel and cattery assistant at the shelter.
“As a result of this he was incredibly nervous when meeting new people and found any new experiences very overwhelming.

“During his stay with us, Dale has grown in confidence and is learning to overcome his nervousness when meeting with new people.
“Over this time, he has become a firm favourite with the staff at the kennels and has made lots of new human and dog friends who he loves to take daily walks with.
“As he’s grown in confidence, he is taking every new experience in his stride and while he can still be hesitant in new situations, his newfound confidence is helping him to adapt quickly and allowing him to show off his very cheeky and playful side.”
Shelter operations manager Amie Jones said trail hounds have wonderful temperaments and are often affectionate and loyal, making them good family pets.
“Dale has now been with for 241 days and has needed some extra 1-1 training and his exposure to the world built up gradually, but with the help of our brilliant team and his favourite handler Vanessa, we are getting there and seeing him grow with us every day,” she said.
“We do offer a foster-to-adopt scheme, which dogs like Dale would thrive with, and enables us to work with his new family while transitioning him into his new home.
“This has worked fantastically with previous dogs that have struggled.
“Dale is looking for a patient, understanding home that will allow him to get into a routine and decompress in his own time.
“He can live with another dog or two, but he cannot live with cats. He would benefit from a family home with children 14+.
