A MAN was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a lorry crashed into a bridge.

An overturned lorry was reported after it crashed into the side of Stiffords Bridge near Cradley.

One ambulance and a paramedic officer arrived at the A4103 just before 7pm on Monday to see a lorry, which was carrying a concrete mixture, on its side.

A telecommunications pole had also been damaged in the crash. 

The man, who was driving the lorry, had managed to get himself out of the vehicle and ambulance staff treated him for minor injuries before he was taken to Hereford County Hospital for further treatment.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Services said: "We were called at 6.50pm to reports of an RTC on Stiffords Bridge near Cradley, Malvern.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene with a Community First Responder also on scene.

"On arrival, crews discovered a lorry had been involved in a collision and the driver, a man, was already out of the vehicle.

"Ambulance staff treated the patient for injuries not believed to be serious before taking him to Hereford County Hospital for further treatment."

Fire crews were also in attendance and a spokesperson said: "Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called out to a road traffic collision involving a large vehicle at Stifford’s Bridge, near Cradley, at 6.53pm on Monday.

“Crews from Ledbury, Malvern, and Droitwich Fire Stations attended the scene on the A4103 to find a lorry, which was carrying a concrete mixer, on its side.

“The male driver had been released prior to fire service arrival by a passing motorist and was in the care of the ambulance service.

"Crews checked the area with a thermal image camera and were unable to make the lorry safe due to its position and a lack of access.

"A telecommunications company was informed with one telecommunications pole damaged."

 

Police also attended the scene and closed the road in both directions. 

A spokesperson said: "At 6.50pm on Monday, March 20 we received a report of a one-vehicle collision involving a lorry which was on it’s side on the A4103 near Cradley.

"The driver had a deep laceration to his hand which was treated by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"The road closure was handed over to the highways agency by police at 9.50pm."
