An exhibition by a stitch and textile art group who supported each other through lockdown will take place at Croome.

My Happy Place, by art group Threads, will run at the National Trust property from March 21 and throughout 2023.

Threads were not able to meet in person throughout 2020 and their online catchups just weren’t the same.

My Happy Place represents a way of coming together in person to share common interests, to make work collaboratively and to be supportive to each other.

The exhibition is their way of celebrating "all that is wonderful about the world" through the varied medium of stitch.

The exhibition will display four arched structures which represent each of the four seasons, surrounding a quiet central space containing three-dimensional textiles that provide a space for contemplation.

Each arch will display textile works that characterise the current season, incorporating stitched panels that depict responses to the theme of My Happy Place.

The panels include a range of different textile techniques sewn into a patchwork using the traditional Korean technique known as pojagi.

Fabrics have been chosen deliberately for their translucence, enabling visitors to see through and catch glimpses of the multiple layers as they build throughout the exhibition.

This layering has a dual purpose as it makes visible some of the methods used and offers views into the three-dimensional works at the centre of the display.

Christine Morris, who created an embroidered water bottle cover titled Winter Water Bottle, said about the inspiration behind the piece: ‘I was inspired to create this piece while watching the many different type of birds frolicking on the various seed heads which I leave in my garden during winter. I enjoy watching them looking for extra food and having fun!

"Often, I’m stitching with a water bottle on my lap or against my back. Their antics make me smile and helped me get through the lockdowns and cold days, and I realised this was my happy place in winter."

Jenine McGaughran, creative producer for South Worcestershire National Trust, said: "We’re thrilled to be working with Threads, their exhibition is a real celebration of nature, craft and seasonality, as well as showcasing the collective talent represented within the group.

"Croome Court is surrounded by nature, set within ‘Capability’ Brown’s first complete landscape, bordered by the Malvern Hills.

"My Happy Place is a reminder of the transformative power of nature and creativity to improve our health and mental wellbeing."

The exhibition takes place at Croome from March 21, 2023 until January 8, 2024 and will evolve throughout in response to seasonal changes and physical, geographic and emotional changes that reflect the participants personal place of happiness.
