A TOPLESS man went on a rampage before being stopped by police with a knife.

A pub landlady said Ricky Smith had wanted to take on "anyone and everyone" in the Beauchamp Arms pub before he assaulted her.

Azeifna Adams, prosecuting, said the 32-year-old, of Poolbrook Road, Malvern, was barred from the Worcester Road-based pub due to past behaviour but tried to come in at 8pm on December 1 last year.

The prosecutor said the landlady, Diane Bird, had calls from people about him being refused entry and told them they were welcome, but the defendant wasn't.

Miss Adams said at midnight he came into the pub.

"His behaviour had changed, he went on a rampage," the prosecutor said, reading from the victim statement of the landlady.

The defendant was saying "come on then", squaring up to customers before pushing the landlady away.

Smith then picked up a chair smashing it on the floor and wielding the broken part as he continued to be aggressive.

Worried someone would get hurt the landlady phoned police and Smith eventually left.

At 12.50am Smith returned and smashed glass windows of the pub before leaving again.

The prosecutor said at 2am a member of the public reported Smith having a knife in Moat Way, Malvern.

When police arrived Smith refused to put both hands up.

He finally did after a threat of being tasered with a knife dropping to the floor as he also threw scissors towards the officers.

Miss Adams said Smith had 33 convictions for 75 offences, which included criminal damage and assaults.

Smith had admitted common assault, two charges of criminal damage and possession of a knife in a public place.

Judith Kenney, defending Smith, said the knife was the lead offence and she had made him aware of the seriousness of his crime.

Mrs Kenney said Smith returned to his parent's home and collected the knife and scissors, and was taking them to new accommodation he had moved into before being stopped by police.

She said the assault had been a push to the landlady, highlighting the landlady had not been injured.

Miss Kenney added Smith was an undiagnosed ADHD sufferer and pointed out the offences took place after he had been drinking.

"His nemesis is alcohol," the solicitor added.

Chairman of the magistrates bench, Andrew Greenway, said magistrates felt there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation giving Smith a two-year community order.

Smith was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 40 rehabilitation activity requirements days.

Smith was also ordered to pay £300 compensation, victim surcharge of £114 and costs of £185.

Smith was also handed a restraining order which means he cannot contact the landlady or enter the pub for the next two years.
