A bubbly teacher with an infectious laugh has been described as the heartbeat of a school community.

Kerry Williams has been nominated for the Unsung Hero award at the Worcestershire Education Awards for her work at Great Malvern Primary School.

Kerry, who said she was excited to be nominated, is the emotionally available adult at the school - a role that sees her work with children in every year group who are struggling for whatever reason.

“Whether it’s something in school or stuff going on at home, which it often is, I help them,” she said.

“It’s a really varied job - I never know who I’m going to be seeing and what my day is going to be like. But it’s really rewarding - it’s a privilege to do what I do.”

Headteacher Nikki Selby, who made the nomination, said: “Kerry totally encompasses the ethos of the school in her ability to adapt to the needs of all children.

“She is bubbly, always smiling and able to instinctively know how to support, encourage, and communicate to children in a way that allows them to understand their actions and the actions of others.

“She is a truly unique and wonderful person that we simply could not do without and always remembered by every child and adult during their time at Great Malvern.

“Her enthusiastic and positive attitude, with her infectious (and loud) laughter brings a joy that can be heard throughout the school.

“Her role is an intense and emotionally draining one, however Kerry always addresses all challenges with a smile and a can-do attitude.

“She instinctively knows how to best support both children and adults and her ability to say and do just what the children need at that time, cannot be taught. She is the heartbeat in the centre of our school community.”
