AFTER a tough few weeks for retail in Malvern, the mayor said the opening of a new clothing store was 'great news'. 

Crew Clothing is a premium clothing retailer with 90 stores across the country including cities such as Bath, Exeter, and Gloucester. 

And a new store is set to open on Thursday, February 2 in the former Tourist Information Centre at 19-21 Church Street in Malvern.

The building has been closed since 2019.

Nicholas Houghton, who is the mayor of Malvern, said: "It's been a tough couple of weeks for the retail scene in Great Malvern with a number of businesses announcing they were closing such as Colemans, Boots, and Terrace on the Hill.

"But the good news is that Crew Clothing Company will be opening a branch in the former Tourist Information Centre at the beginning of February.

"Great to see that a quality chain has faith in Great Malvern by investing in our High Street".

Boots on Church Street announced it will be closing on Saturday, March 11.

Bosses  from Crew Clothing said they are always happy to open stores in "quintessentially British" cities and towns like Malvern.

Regional manager Carol Kane said: "Crew are champions of the great British high street and we are always happy to open bricks and mortar stores in quintessentially British towns such as Malvern.

"We hope to be welcomed by the residents of Malvern as well as our new neighbours in the surrounding businesses.

"We look forward to bringing a touch of our coastal heritage to the town and welcoming new customers through our doors."

The store opening is set to bring up to six new jobs to the area including two management positions.
