She said she was "pleased" with her achievement.

“It is great that the University takes the time to recognise the work of their students.

"I am going to put the scholarship towards pursuing my dream of moving abroad after graduation, where I hope to use the language teaching qualification which is a part of my degree.”

Ms Bliss is among a select group of students to achieve an Academic Scholarship Award from the university this year.

The award is only given to those students who achieve the highest grades in their studies.

Ms Bliss, a former pupil at The Chase School and Sixth Form, added: “I have had some wonderful tutors and made new friends.

“I am in the unique situation of being able to pursue both an artistic and an academic subject at the same time as getting a teaching qualification.

"These students achieved highly in their studies, and their dedication and commitment shines through.

"We hope this award will inspire them to pursue further academic success.

"We are very grateful to all our benefactors, whose generosity makes such a difference to our students.”
