A driver was arrested after a late-night crash near Worcester.

West Mercia Police has confirmed that a man was arrested following a crash on the A38 in Kempsey at around 3:30am on Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the force has stated that the driver of a blue Volkswagen GTI was asked to stop before the subsequent crash.

He was then arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

It is also understood that a man had to be taken to hospital after the crash, with injuries not believed to be life-threatening

The police spokesperson has also confirmed that armed officers attended the incident.

"A man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences," they said.

"Our armed officers have a dual role and also perform road policing duties.

"They attended the incident in this capacity, performing road policing duties."

West Mercia has referred the incident to Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), in line with standard procedure. 

The A38 was closed between Napleton Lane and Church Street for several hours, eventually reopening at around midday on Sunday.
