A Malvern pub is preparing to welcome patrons for Her Majesty The Queen's funeral.

The Unicorn will open on Monday to give the community a chance to come together for the historic occasion.

The pub, on Bellevue Terrace, has also left up bunting as a mark of respect for the Queen.

Landlord Mike Anderson said: “We will be opening at 10am on Monday so people can come together and have a drink.

“Hopefully we will have a pub full of people come to pay their respects.”

He added: “She ran the country and we have never known anything different, certainly not in my lifetime.

“We have never known anything other than the Queen.

“It is a massive change to see the King.

“My mother-in-law attended a service over the weekend and found herself still singing God Save the Queen by mistake.”

Many of the neighbouring shops will close on Monday, including national chains such as WHSmith, Waitrose and FatFace.

Among the independent businesses set to close is First Paige Print.

Graphic designer Jonathan Nash said: “It’s hard to process.

"She seemed like she was invincible and would live on no matter what happened."
