A Malvern woman who now lives in Austria came back to the town to give a talk on her latest book.

Amelia Marriette's book reading and discussion on ‘Walking into Alchemy: The Transformative Power of Nature’ was enjoyed by audiences at the Coach House Theatre in Malvern on August 28.

Amelia's drone film of the walk she completed 52 times in 52 weeks in the hills and mountains of Southern Austria was described as “illuminating”.

She also explained what she means by alchemy in her book, saying: "As a walker, I went out to find beauty.

“To see a golden sunset or a field of sunflowers, for example, to hear alchemy - the rushing water of a mountain stream or noisy crickets making their music or to taste it, drinking fresh snow or eating wild strawberries."

Amelia continued: “That alchemy is usually only concerned with the turning of worthless metal into gold, but walkers can find gold everywhere!

“I certainly learnt all this growing up in Malvern before I moved to Austria."

Jacqueline Forest, who attended the talk, said: “Amelia's book reading was very enjoyable.

“Meeting the author and learning about her background, career path, and relocation to Austria was very inspiring. I am really looking forward to reading her book."
