LEAMINGTON 3, MALVERN TOWN 0 MALVERN travelled to Leamington in British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands and came away on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline.

The visitors, playing downhill but against the wind, started brightly and earned a succession of corners in the first few minutes but they could not make any of them count.

However, they did succeed in stifling Leamington from making any worthwhile attempts on goal until the 30th minute when Robbie Beard broke clear, but man-of-the-match Craig Humphries saved his shot.

Malvern suffered a blow in the 35th minutes when captain Jamie Hyde suffered a leg injury and was unable to continue. Ed Lyons was brought on in his place.

Within a minute, Tom Lacey played the ball to Lyons but his shot was caught by home keeper Richard Morris.

The loss of the captain changed the balance of the team and, in the 39th minute, Leamington earned a corner which came right across the box and found the hosts' top goal-scorer, Ben Mackey, who fired the ball home.

Just before the break, Beard was left clear but Humphries cleared the danger.

Leamington started the second-half with several corners which were all cleared.

Malvern then broke twice and Andy Crowther's efforts were thwarted by Morris.

Leamington changed their formation to try and defeat Malvern's spoiling tactics, bringing on long-serving forward Josh Blake.

This move paid off twice in the space of four minutes when first Mackey grabbed his second goal in the 58th minute after the ball was played over the Malvern defence.

Then Blake helped himself to Leamington's third goal.

Malvern re-organised themselves and, with Humphries in sparkling form, prevented Leamington from taking any further chances, but failed to really make any themselves.

Malvern are away again tomorrow, when they travel to Barton Rovers.

Recent decent performances against the second and third placed teams away from home should give them encouragement against their mid-table opponents.
