The landlord of a shop in Malvern Link has spoken out about the recent criticism of the building's appearance.

Doug Jones previously rented the shop out to Chris Lee, co-owner of Amaze, who moved out of the property at the beginning of May.

Mr Jones said: "He bust the window and wouldn't let anybody in to measure it until after he had left.

"I hired AMB Glass to fix it as it is quite thick, specialised, bespoke glass but he put it back a few months.

"He put silly suitcases in front of the shop - so what have I done wrong?

"At the end of the day, he broke the window and he put the cases on the front.

"So what is the problem with me?

"The repairs have cost me a fortune and I can't rent the shop out while the window is broken."

Mr Lee disputed that he did not let the contractors fix the shop window.

He said: "There is no way I would prevent someone from repairing a window I had been wanting repaired for months.

"Why would I not want a shop window?

"I was so frustrated. I got five quotes from various glass companies with prices ranging from £2,000 - £3,500.

"I obviously couldn't advise on who was good or bad, I just said these are the prices.

"Someone did come in but they said I would have to have the front off and it was dangerous.

"They said they would come next month but they never came.

"I've been gone since the beginning of May now, so I think that indicates he just doesn't want to do it.

"I bear the bloke no malice though and I don't want any bad blood."

A resident of Malvern Link originally complained about the shop's exterior.

They said: "The shop premises in Malvern Link which were recently vacated by the Amaze store, prior to its removal to Belle Vue Terrace, are a complete eyesore.

"Something needs to be done to return the empty premises to a state which is more suited to a residential area, particularly as it faces the main approach to Malvern on the Worcester Road."
