A MALVERN rock band wowed the crowds this weekend at one of the region's most popular music festivals.

Dead Dads Club, from the town, performed at Lakefest, in the grounds of Eastnor Castle, on August 12.

The band, which has performed together since 2017, has previously performed at Lakefest, but this year was the first time they have made the main stage at the festival.

Lee Richardson, lead singer, said: "Being on at mid-day, we were lucky to have the crowd behind us from the start.

"It was an honour to share a stage with bands like The Manics and Supergrass.

"The whole band was getting stopped during the weekend for either selfies, or to be told how much people enjoyed our set, so we’re glad people enjoyed it.

"We have played the past four Lakefests, starting on the Brethryn cocktail tent, then got bumped up to the second stage last year, then the main stage this year."

The band started off back in 2017 as a result of an open mic night and there have been several line-up changes since.

Currently the band is made of Lee Richardson, Jim Smith, Ian Rae and Ian Saxelby Smith.

They have played in locations as far afield as Birmingham, London and Liverpool.

Mostly inspired by indie-rock, Dead Dads Club has a distinctly 90s sound with some older influences.

Mr Richardson said: "The usual suspects are our influences, The Beatles, 90’s indie bands like oasis and the stone roses.

"But the best bands in this country are not signed to major record labels, and are doing things themselves now, so they inspire us more than anyone.

"Manchester band Affleck's Palace are a prime example."

Lakefest saw thousands turn out at Eastnor Castle for a weekend of live music and entertainment.

Audiences braved the searing temperatures to enjoy the festival, which featured big-name acts including UB40, Manic Street Preachers and Supergrass.

Lee Richardson will be performing a live acoustic set at the Nag's Head in Malvern this Sunday.
