STROUD MP Siobhan Baillie has toured the recently refurbished Stroud General Hospital’s Jubilee Ward and Minor Injuries Unit (MIU).

Siobhan met with Graham Russell, non-executive director of Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, League of Friends trustee Nick Hurst and matron Liz Lovett for the visit.

The Jubilee Ward and Minor Injuries Unit have undergone a £2 million refurbishment, including a generous donation from the League of Friends.

The MIU now includes a treatment area with individual cubicles and greater privacy as well as a children’s room which will soon include a mural painted by art students from SGS College.

On the Jubilee Ward, older beds have also been replaced and each bay now has en-suite bathrooms.

“I was really impressed with these new refurbished facilities and the substantial investment in our healthcare services here in Stroud,” said Siobhan.

“Having the MIU open for business is a huge boost. The improvements are impressive and thoughtful. I have been asked to remind local people that the MIU is now open to the public for both walk-ins and appointments.

“The new facilities are also very welcome for staff who have been at the frontline with the pandemic these last few years and many have been working elsewhere during the build. I would like to thank them for their hard work. They have been stars and deserve better working conditions.

“It was also important that I met with patients while on the visit. One woman came over to tell me that her husband had received exemplary care since his arrival and both of them had been treated with dignity and kindness.

“She then went on to say: ‘this is what a community hospital should be like’. I couldn’t agree more.”
