MORE information has been given around a month-long road closure between Worcester and Malvern.

Upton Road will be closed for 40 days while Cadent carries out work between the junction of the B4424 (Upton Road), Jennet Tree Lane in Callow End and the A449 in Powick.

Powick councillor Tom Wells has revealed more details of what work is being done and how it will affect residents.

He said: "Cadent is replacing a medium pressure gas pipe near Carey's Brook just before the Callow End sign.

"The timing is to coincide with the school holidays in order to lessen the impact on traffic flows.

"On the face of it, this will create major inconvenience throughout August for local residents and businesses."

Residents who live on the route can still access their properties, as too can residents of Wheatfields Park.

According to Cllr Wells, the road is being closed in full because Cadent do not consider it safe to have traffic moving near where they will be digging.

For vehicles heading up from Upton, Hanley Swan and Welland, the official diversion route is via Barnard's Green, Malvern Link, then on to Powick.

Cllr Wells added: "More locally, I suspect people living in the Callow End catchment area, will use Jennet Tree Lane and join the A449 at Newland.

"It is vital that drivers exercise great care when driving along the lane.

"It is not designed for large amounts of traffic and is used by horse riders and cyclists, as well as people on foot."

Cllr Wells said he had been in discussion with First Worcester about continuing to operate services in and out of Worcester routed via Jennet Tree Lane.

People who normally board the bus at Wheatfield Park, will need to board the buss at the Blue Bell pub, he added.
