POLICE are carrying out speed checks on drivers between Worcester and Malvern.

The Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Team is carrying out checks in Kempsey, Severn Stoke, Ryall and Longdon.

PCs Kevin Johns and Dee Stanley were out with their speed equipment checking drivers after repeated concerns about speeding in and around the Malvern district.

Parish councils such as Tenbury Town Council  and Suckley have already signed up, with regular concerns about speeding throughout Malvern.

Cllr Sarah Rouse said: "In my village of Leigh Sinton slowing the traffic to 20mph would I think make everyone feel safer getting to school,to the shop and even just crossing the road.

"We don’t want to see twenty everywhere, just around schools and where people live, walk and cycle.

"Having had a little poll on my local Facebook group most people seemed keen to give it a try."

Cllr Peter Whatley, who represents Alfrick and Leigh on the district council, added: "Traffic speeding is a constant concern to residents in every community I know.

"Creating 20mph limits where they could make a real difference, such as outside schools and in villages' core areas, is clearly the right thing to do."
