SPECIAL rainbow benches have been installed at a park in Malvern ahead of the return of Malvern Pride.

The benches in Priory Park are the result of a project led by the Malvern Pride committee and funded by Malvern Hills District Council.

They are a symbol of diversity and inclusion for all communities within the Malvern Hills District, and have been powder coated so they will last for many years to come.

Cllr Peter Whatley, portfolio holder for resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are really pleased with the benches, which are much more than just a colourful seat, they are a visible statement of inclusion for everyone in our community to recognise.”

Mary Marsh, from Malvern Pride said: "Pride aims to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the Pride benches help demonstrate that we are promoting a sense of inclusivity and equality within the area.

"All will be very welcome at the Pride event, which aims to be a celebration of our little town’s diversity, inclusivity and general quirkiness, please come and join us."

Malvern Pride takes place in Priory Park on July 30.

The festival returns to the town for the first time since 2019, having been cancelled twice during the pandemic.

This year, organisers say it will be back better than ever this time round.

July 30 will see Priory Park filled for Malvern Pride, which will include stalls and food trucks from local businesses as well as arts and crafts and music.

The Malvern Pride committee was formed three years ago to plan and organise Malvern Pride events.

The first event took place in 2019 where it was attended by hundreds of people of all ages.

Applications for sponsorship, trade stands or performers are still being welcomed.

If you are a local entertainer, business or group, Malvern Pride is still accepting acts and sponsors for the event.
