The 31-year-old coach, based at DP Boxing in Sherriff Street, Worcester, followed up the punch with a barrage of brutal right hands which knocked his opponent against the ropes before he fell to the canvas.

Tank Promotions took a series of photos from the bruising encounter which Mr Shaw shared on Facebook to capture the drama of the bout.

Mr Shaw of Malvern, who won on points, will donate the fighter's purse of £1,000 to be split evenly between two charities - New Hope Worcester Children's Charity and Age UK.

The dad also fought with 'RIP Alfie' on his shorts, the name of a boy from the city who died.

Mr Shaw said thinking of Alfie and the charities he was supporting helped him fight through the pain barrier.

Mr Shaw had a broken hand throughout the bout and broke the other hand in the fight itself.

Mr Shaw, who also had his son Oscar's name emblazoned on his shorts, said: "It was a one-sided points with a knockdown in the second. I was saving myself for the next fight as I was fighting with broken hands.

"I had a broken hand before I even started fighting. Now I have two. But it's all in the name of charity."

Mr Shaw said he wished to thank Michelle Davies, the “miracle worker” who 'worked tirelessly on my left hand all week to make sure it was ready for the fight night'.

He said: "I wouldn’t have been able to fight if she hadn’t have done all her physio and work on the hand. I wouldn’t have fought if it wasn’t for Alfie and the charities. But still, we got it done."

Mr Shaw said he also wanted to thank his girlfriend Daisy Lloyd 'for all the hard work she puts in behind the scenes making sure my food prep is on point'.
