THE Jubilee is fast approaching, with people across the Malvern Hills preparing to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the throne.

Highlights of the weekend's calendar include parties in the park in both Malvern and Upton, as well as fun days at Barnards Green Cricket Club and the lighting of the Worcestershire Beacon.

 

Here is the full programme of events: 

  • Thursday, June 2, Girlguiding Bonfire, at Blackmore Camp Site, Hanley Swan from 7pm.
  • Thursday, June 2, The Jubilant Queen's Beasts at Malvern Theatres and The Cube, a specially commissioned afternoon of free outdoor theatre.
  • Thursday, June 2, Barnards Green Cricket Club afternoon tea party 2pm to 5pm.
  • Friday, June 3, Barnards Green Cricket Club family fun day, includes bouncy castle and inflatable games, fun sports and dancing sessions for kids, arts, crafts, and traditional fete games.
  • Sunday, June 5, 12pm to 4.30pm, Great Malvern Celebrations in Priory Park, with live music, dancing, children's entertainment, refreshments, handwaving flags and crowns.
  • Entertainment continues at Barnards Green Cricket Club over the rest of the weekend including DJ Russkins on Friday evening, live cricket on Saturday with 80s/90s cover band The Lost Boys in the evening, and more live cricket on Sunday.
  • Sunday, June 5 from 2pm to 6pm, Platinum Picnic in the Park Welland Parish Hall is being hosted in the field behind the Parish Hall in Welland. Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council have organised the event which will include live music, walkabout acts, a bouncy castle, barbecue, bar, and plenty of other entertainment. Food and drink stalls will be on offer and entry is free.
  • Thursday, June 2 to Sunday June 5, Little Witley Jubilee Celebrations will include lighting of the beacon, historical and floral exhibition in the church, street party, tree planting and live screening of national events. The church exhibition will be both floral and celebrating the 70 years of the Queen's reign through village events and memories of royal involvement. Including tea, cakes and craft stalls. 
  • Thursday, June 2 from 1pm to 8pm, Rushwick Platinum Jubilee Party. Come to the Cricket Club to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style, with music, entertainment, bar drinks, food, and lots of fun activities for kids. 
  • Saturday, June 4, Kempsey Platinum Picnic in the Park at Plovers Rise Playing Fields in Kempsey this free family community includes live entertainers, fun dog show, children's entertainment and more.

Upton upon Severn:

 
  • Upton's celebrations will take place over two days. Saturday, June 4 from 12pm to 4.15pm on Upton playing field there will be Bands in the park, competitions, tractor rides, giant bouncy castles, field games and tug of war, classic cars and more. There will also be the Upton Jubilee Show. Sunday, June 5 from 12pm at Upton Museum there will be tea and cake from the WI, live music, Harriet Baldwin MP will plant a tree at 2.30pm, a screening of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and a street Party in the high-street (ticketed) 2pm to 4pm.
  • Church Service with a Royal Twist on Sunday, June 5, 9.50am at the Parish Church Old St, Upton upon Severn, with a bouncy castle, refreshments and more.
  • Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, June 5, Royal Scarecrow Trail, pick up a map from The Upton Tourist Information Office or the Baptist Church to find royalty in Upton and the surrounding areas
  • Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 4, Platinum Jubilee Trail, join this free royal trail, open from 10am to 5pm. Find the 19 crowns hidden amongst the shop window displays to find the location of the extra special Coronation Crown. Collect a trail sheet from the Tourist Information Centre at The Pepperpot.
