RESIDENTS at a nursing home will be given a royal welcome in their own jubilee themed carriage.

Residents of The Lawns Nursing Home, in Kempsey, have created the carriage ahead of the jubilee celebrations.

They worked on the creation together over the last month.

Melanie Dawson, manager of The Lawns Nursing Home, said: "At Christmas, we had a wish from a resident to go in a carriage, as she had never been in one before.

"We made that wish a reality thanks to Joy Hoskins and wanted to create another carriage for the approaching jubilee celebrations.

"The residents came up with the design, painted and put the creation together, which took them roughly a month to complete.

"Several residents are set to head out for a run in the carriage, and we have already had lots of cars toot their horns as they have driven past."

The care home is set to have a wide range of activities over the jubilee weekend for the residents and staff.

Melanie said: "On Wednesday (June 1) we are having a scarecrow festival, where the winners will be announced on Thursday

"On Friday, the Malvern carriage club are driving through the village so we will be out there with our own carriage. We will also be holding a street party lunch on the same day.

"The Saturday will consist of watching the jubilee celebrations on television with snacks, and on Sunday we will all be cheering on as the village wheelbarrow race passes the care home."
