A CARE home has been given a welcome boost by one of Malvern's footballers.

Jay Sauntson, who plays for Malvern Town FC, responded to a call from Windsor Court, when care home staff were desperate to find someone who could deliver a piano that had been donated to them.

Mr Sauntson, as owner of 10Ten Haulage, decided to help out and deliver the piano, which had been donated to the newly-opened care home in Lansdowne Crescent.

He picked up and delivered it while on the way to training.

Community liaison co-ordinator Ginny Peachey said: "We were extremely grateful to the club for stepping in and helping us out.

"Jay did such a great job and made sure that piano was put into position, even though he had a hard training session ahead of him at the club!

"It just shows what a community-focused football club Malvern Town are; they had no hesitation in helping us out and now our residents can enjoy the piano, which was donated to us by a very kind member of the public.

"We are lucky to be part of such a supportive and thoughtful local community."

Windsor Court opened in July last year after an £8million restoration.

Brought to the town by the Maria Mallaband Care Group, the home includes 51 en-suite rooms with facilities including a bistro and bar, hair salon and an eight seat cinema, all of which are open to the community.

Located on the site of the former Malvern Community Hospital, Windsor Court created more than 70 new jobs in the town when it opened.
