Two RAF transport planes have been filmed flying in close formation over the Malvern Hills.

The planes - an Airbus A400M and a C-17 Globemaster III - were seen in the skies above Colwall, Malvern and Ledbury yesterday (Thursday, April 5).

They would have also been visible over the Cotswolds as they made their way to and from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

Twitter user @eaglesboy2 was quick enough to get a video of the planes and said it was quite a sight seeing them flying so close together in formation.

Abi Bertram, who also managed to snap pictures of the aircraft, said: “It was fascinating to see two large military planes flying in such close formation over the Malvern Hills.”

Both aircraft are used by the air force to deliver heavy loads around the world at short notice.

They are commonly used to transport troops, heavy equipment and humanitarian aid, with the Globemaster able to carry nearly 50 tons of equipment while in the air.

RAF military plane spotted flying 'so low you could see headlights'

The aircraft’s design enables high-angle, steep approaches at relatively slow speeds, allowing it to operate into small, austere airfields and onto runways as short as 3,500ft long and just 90ft wide.

The A400M is described by the RAF as "the most advanced, proven and certified airlifter available" and able to carry up to 37 tons of goods.

RAF Voyager spotted flying over Worcester

In March, an RAF Voyager was spotted flying over Worcester and Evesham - with one resident claiming it flew so low they could see the headlights.

"Since the whole Ukraine situation started I have noticed that the RAF plane has been flying around a lot more,” they said.

"This evening I spotted the RAF plane flying low over me, and when I say low I mean I could see the headlights."

The planes are known as one of the most versatile and modern aircraft in the Royal Air Force.

Voyagers are used in both air-to-air refuelling and in passenger and troop transport, as well as cargo and logistics.

RAF Brize Norton is the largest RAF station with about 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civilian staff.
