A POPULAR community centre in Malvern is celebrating its 10 year anniversary with a Scottish Dancing event next month.

Malvern Cube, in Albert Road North, is a community and arts centre which showcases regular bands, theatre and comedy nights.

On May 1, the centre will be holding a ceilidh with the Silurian Big Band to commemorate their anniversary.

A ceilidh is a traditional Scottish gathering that involves dancing and Gaelic folk music.

The first event that was ever held at the centre when the Malvern Youth & Community Trust took over the building exactly 10 years ago was a Ceilidh.

The bar will be open at the event and there will be a performance from the Very Grimm Brothers, a poetry and musician duo that have previously performed at Worcester Literary Festival.

Alongside the ceilidh, there is also an exhibition which will be on display documenting the memories of the Youth Centre, provided by the community and archive research.

Malvern Youth Centre – A Retrospective, will open to the public at 4pm on Sunday, May 1 and will be available to view throughout the month.

Tickets for the event will be £5 and are available to purchase by visiting the centre or via the Malvern Cube website.

The centre also hosts markets, classes, a youth club and also has skateboarding facilities.

Malvern Cube recently organised a 'give what you can' variety night to perform to raise funds for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Those in attendance were able to buy tickets for £5 - £20, with no set limit provided, which managed to raise £1500 ahead of the event.

The event was hosted by West Midlands based artist and comedian, Lexi Strauss, who will oversee the evening of music, comedy and performance art.

Live music was played by two Malvern bands, Truck Stop Trixies, who blend Americana, country, blues and roots with twin vocals and guitar from Vo Tyler and Tyler Massey, and Black Heart Angels who perform indie and rock covers.

Malvern Cube is a small independent charity that relies heavily on volunteer help and support.
